Windows Vista : An Overview
About 5 years later, Microsoft released the latest version of Windows called Vista. After changing from Longhorn to Vista, a stable version of Windows is expected to be released in November 2006. It is now available for free download. If you have enough patience or a very fast Internet connection, you can download Vista which is about 2.5 GB in size. Microsoft promises that Vista will have many new features, including an updated graphical user interface (GUI), Windows DVD Maker? New media creation tool? The network, printing and audio subsystems have been completely redesigned. Vista uses peer-to-peer technology to easily share files between computers on the network. Microsoft claims that with the inclusion of Virtual PC in Vista, running older versions of Windows on the same computer at the same time will not be a problem. Developers can use the Net Framework version 3.0 introduced in Vista. It is said that this version is easier to use than the traditional Windows API. The most common criticism of Windows XP is its unstable security and its inability to protect the system from buffer overflows, viruses and malware. Vista’s stated goal is to significantly improve security and protect the system from malware and viruses. Vista has improved Windows Shell performance, easier and faster search functions, similar to the sidebar of Apple Spotlight, desktop gadgets for applets, the latest version of Internet Explorer? Microsoft's controversial Web browser-Windows Media Player 11, dedicated user account control, built-in firewall to control and monitor incoming and outgoing traffic, Windows Defender, Windows anti-spyware version and will replace the existing Outlook Express Windows Mail. Microsoft said that Vista will help improve PC performance in certain key areas, including startup, user response, and wake up. The new sleep mode in Vista combines sleep mode, data protection and low power consumption in hibernation. If you want to test Vista on a computer from a desktop, the system must have at least an 800 MHz processor, 512 MB RAM, and the latest version of a premium graphics card that can run DirectX 9 or higher. This is only the minimum requirement. Is the processor better for the best results? More than 1.2 GHz is required.
